Notable Guest Stars:
 Rosalyn Landor (Brenna) – Landor does mostly voice acting in recent years, but she did appear in several TV shows during the 1980s, and appeared in the 1990 film Bad Influence, which I’ve not seen but includes Rob Lowe and James Spader.
Barrie Ingham (Danilo)- Ingham was prolific television actor and a long career. He was in The Great Mouse Detective, which I haven’t watched in years. Should probably change that.
Jon De Vries (Wilson & Victor Granger) DeVries has appears as a guest star on many television shows over the years, most recently The Black list and Elementary. He also had a part in the film Sarah, Plain and Tall. A film I loved as a kid, and really should watch again (It stars Glenn Close and Christopher Walken and remains my favorite film of both)

The Rewatch 119: Samaritan Snare

Review:

I watched this episode with my mother, who is a nurse.  While she wouldn’t be in a surgery (she’s not a surgical nurse) she agreed with me that this episode is full of technobabble that makes no sense.  They even made up a name for a scalpel, calling it a Tissue migrator.

I don’t really care for this episode.  I feel its not anyone’s best.  There is nothing in particular bad about it, but nothing particularly good about it either.  This is probably the shortest review ever, because other then Picard’s backstory, there is nothing really important in this episode to comment on.

Interesting Notes:

  • Written by Robert L. McCullough
  • Directed by Les Launau
  • This episode plays a part in the sixth season episode Tapestry

Pros:

  • Picard backstory
  • Advancement of technology to include artificial hearts.

Cons:

  • I like that they are now wearing hair coverings in surgery, but why not masks?  Its it the sterile field?
  • This is supposed to be a routine procedure with complications, yet the complication is something only one doctor can handle? I would think they would have had someone able to deal with it at the hospital.

Howie Seago – Riva.  He was nominated for an award for his part in Beyond Silence, a 1996 German drama.
Marnie Mosiman – Harmony/Balance.  She stared as Tracy Peters on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful for 11 episodes. She has also done voice acting and appeared as minor characters on several TV programs.  She is also the wife of John DeLancie and mother of Keegan DeLancie, both of which will appear on Star Trek as members of the Q.
Thomas “Randy” Oglesby – Scholar/Artist  He would appear on Star Trek several times as Degra in Enterprise.
Leo Damian – Warrior/Adonis.  Unfortunately, he did not choose to act very long, and his credits are listed from 1988 to 1994.  His last film in 1994 he also wrote and produced.

Notable Guest Stars:
 Whoopi Goldberg– Guinan.  She would appear as Guinan several times across the series, and played a major tole in the 1994 film Generations.  If you don’t know who Whoopi Goldberg is, I suggest you share your method of ignoring pop culture.  She is known for many films and tv shows, currently the talk show the View.
Seymour Cassel – Hester Dealt. He was a prolific actor, and even showed up in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
R.J Williams – Ian Andrew Troi. He no longer acts, but instead runs Young Hollywood, an entertainment company.
Colm Meaney – Transporter Chief. Or Miles O’Brien. I’m not really going to point him out much because as far as I am concerned he’s a main character for Star Trek. Same with Whoopi Goldburg. Guinan shows up often enough to be considered a medium character. (There should be a term between major and minor.)
Diana Mulder – Katherine Pulaski. She was a guest star in two TOS episodes, and would remain a main character for season 2.

 Marc Alaimo – Tebok. Alaimo would return as several characters over the course of the series, but he is probably best known as Gul Dukot. Who I will probably rant about when we get to DS9
Anthony James– Thei. He was a character actor on several TV shows.
Leon Rippy – L.Q. “Sonny” Clemonds. He appeared along with Jonathan Frakes on the miniseries North and South. (Never seen it, you should. Just make sure you get the one about the civil war and not industrial England (although also good))
Grace Harrison – Clare Raymond. She doesn’t have an extensive list of credits but she appeared as Bitty Stonecipher on Designing Women and Susan Slater on the TV series Melba from 1986.
Peter Mark Richman– Ralph Offenhouse. He voiced “old” Spiderman in the animated series from 1996.
