Star Trek: The Next Generation was the first live action television show in the franchise since the TOS ended almost 20 years earlier. The success of the motion picture brought attention to the franchise, and when the salaries of the actors got bigger, Paramount decided it was cheaper just to make a new series with lesser known actors.
The Next Generation (known as TNG) took place 100 years later in 2364. We are now onboard the brand new USS Enterprise-D. This one, the fifth in its line, is captained by a man quite different then Kirk, although I suspect Picard would have great respect for James T. Kirk.
I have to admit that I am biased towards TNG over TOS when it comes to my list of favorites in this franchise. Partially because I feel there was more of an attempt of an ensemble cast in this but also because this is the first Trek I really got exposed to. I’m a 90s kid, so I grew up with Picard, Riker and the crew of the Enterprise-D.
TNG has also given me alot more to write about. The commentary they try to make is closer to what I’m familiar with, but there is alot more to write about. The episodes themselves are actually shorter, but they make better use of their cast, and have a variety of different writers to input into the pot.
Note: I am going to try to post a review a day till I catch up to where I’m actually viewing live. I’m back at work so I can’t watch it every day and sometimes won’t watch for a week so there might be some delays. However I will try and update this page at least once a week to keep it updated.
CREDIT: While I have made caps of my own while watching, some caps I had to find online. I shall endevour to credit the places that I find the screencaps I use as headers.
CygnusX1.net – I have gotten several screenshots from this website, and I shall credit them on the individual reviews, but I also wanted to notate them here. They are also a great resource for ship blueprints and other media about Star Trek.
